Closing Report: Cooperation between COTECA and Kaffee Campus is a complete success

09/12/2016

- High satisfaction level of exhibitors and visitors

- Increase in numbers of exhibitors and visitors

- Excellent reception for supporting programme

More exhibitors, more visitors, plenty of expert discussions, and a great atmosphere at the stands – the cooperation between COTECA Coffee, Tea and Cocoa Global Industry Expo and the Kaffee Campus of the German Roasters Guild was a complete success. Nearly 200 exhibitors from 40 nations showcased their products and services for coffee, tea and cocoa at COTECA from 7 to 9 September 2016. Some 3,600 trade visitors came to Hamburg to find out about the products and innovations, and to attend the accompanying presentations and workshops. Visitors were highly satisfied with the events: 91% praised the quality of information available, 93% highlighted the opportunities for comprehensive expert discussions and exchange of views, and 90% said they were pleased with the very good opportunities to gain and cultivate international contacts.

“We feel this event went smoothly and very successfully all round. COTECA and the Kaffee Campus complemented one another ideally in their programme, and were equally well received by the trade visitors. We are delighted at the satisfaction of exhibitors and visitors,” says Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH.

“I can only agree with that – holding the Kaffee Campus in cooperation with COTECA was a complete success for us, too. Our exhibitors were able to get plenty of good business leads very quickly, so they are very satisfied,” says Arkadius Michalczyk, Secretary-General of the German Roasters Guild.

COTECA – the industry expo for decision makers

The most important aspects of the event for trade visitors were making new business contacts (62%), cultivating their existing contacts (46%) and networking with colleagues (46%). The level of participants was extremely high – the percentage of decision makers among trade visitors remained at the same very high level as at the previous event, that is 91%. This was a quality event – one of the positive factors highlighted exhibitors was the level of visitors and the expertise they showed in discussions. Business deals were closed on the spot at COTECA, and promising discussions held with prospects of good follow-up business. Many of the visitors had obtained extensive information before the start of COTECA, and made targeted visits to the exhibition stands to meet relevant companies and discuss their products.

The reasons given by trade visitors for coming to COTECA included not only exchanges of view on the markets and the specifics in their sector, but also finding out about new products and trends. Their main areas of interest were coffee import and export, tea trade, the packaging industry, roasting machines, espresso and coffee machines and accessories. In addition, COTECA is increasingly becoming an exhibition for presentation of the regions of origin – so there were many visitors who came to get information on the growing countries and regions.

Kaffee Campus gets an enthusiastic response

The cooperation of COTECA with the Kaffee Campus of the German Roasters Guild was highly successful. The Kaffee Campus itself likewise got top marks – visitors were delighted with the exhibitors and with the range of workshops and presentations. The exhibitors were also very pleased, and noted the high quality of talks at the exhibition stands. The workshops were fully booked, and the expert presentations attracted a large audience. A special highlight was the “Wall of Coffee”, where visitors could find out about 170 coffees from a wide range of countries, and also taste most of them straight away.

High quality conference and supporting programme

Many visitors also attended the COTECA Conference programme, which featured leading international speakers. Major focus subjects were climate change and sustainability, the experience gained in different countries and projects, and trends and digital marketing opportunities. In view of the expert knowledge of visitors, it is not surprising that lively discussions with the speakers continued after the presentations.

Japan impressively presented its programme on all aspects of green tea – meeting with great interest by trade visitors. Workshops and presentations were held to demonstrate the traditional techniques of drying and rolling, and also various tea ceremonies. Coffee cuppings and tea tastings were held by exhibitors in the designated area of COTECA, attracting large numbers of visitors.
