Pesticide residue legislation in the EU – a challenge for tea trade

Pesticide residues are assumed to derive from an intended use. However, more and more cases are arising where pesticides listed in Regulation (EC) 396/2005 are detected although they were not intentionally used as a pesticide during production, but instead they arise as contaminants in the tea. As a result, there are serious problems in the tea trade due to improper maximum residue limits. This is an unacceptable situation when the product was actually produced properly. The presentation sheds light on the background of this situation and tries to identify possible solutions.
